This past week on an annual snowboarding trip with his friends, our very own Nick Marino Jr. saw first hand the hunger problem in another U.S. city. Before heading out to Denver, Nick collected 2 suitcases filled with blankets, jackets and sweaters to deliver to a great organization called, Denver Rescue Mission.
Denver Rescue Mission is an organization that feeds the homeless in Denver 3 times a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This organization has a mission that states; we meet people at their physical and spiritual points of need, with the goal of returning them to society as productive, self-sufficient citizens.
The homeless population in Denver grew to over 11,000 people in 2011 and when the numbers come in, they will have increased in 2012. According to the organization Feeding America, the state of Colorado lands right in the middle of the list for food insecure states.
This past Sunday Nick and a friend of his went to Denver Rescue Mission to deliver the suitcases and also volunteered there that afternoon. They helped prepare dinner for later that evening and both of them took to the line to help serve over 200 homeless men and women lunch.
“Since I have been working at TangoTab, this is something that I see and read about all the time, but it’s not something that just grows on you. It’s tough to see and it breaks my heart.”
-Nick Marino Jr.
TangoTab is not live in Denver today, but even if we are not in your neighborhood yet, we will be there soon enough. You can sign up for TangoTab today and we will let you know as soon as we are in your neck of the woods. Don’t keep this a secret. Let your friends know that they can make an impact in this fight. We shouldn’t hide from hunger, because it’s not hiding from us.
