We are all Thankful for different things in our lives. All through the month of November we have been asking people to tell us stories about families that are in need this Thanksgiving holiday. We received some of the most heartbreaking stories. From a family who’s daughter that is getting sicker by the day from the worst type of West Nile Virus that you can get (which is affecting her brain) to a single mother that is taking care of a special needs adult and her two special needs children, we are grateful that these stories came to us and that we are able to help them this upcoming Thursday.
So, what are we doing? We teamed up with local Dallas restaurant Norma’s Cafe, Dallas Cowboys Pro-Bowler Jay Ratliff and media outlets all throughout Dallas/Fort Worth (Good Morning Texas, Eyeopener, KTXD, K104, 103.7 Lite FM) to get this message out. At the beginning we were going to sponsor 5 families and provide them the entire Thanksgiving Feast; which includes the turkey, 3 side dishes, rolls and dessert. After going through the stories we ended up with 12 families rather than the original 5.
Throughout the week we will be posting the stories of the families that were selected for TangoTab Giving Thanks. Out of respect to the families we will not be mentioning their names. We want to thank everyone for nominating families and we are honored to be teaming up with Norma’s Cafe to provide the full Thanksgiving feast for these families this Thanksgiving.
The first story that we are starting out with is one that we just mentioned. This is about a single mother of two who lives in a suburb east of Dallas. This single mother tends to not only her 2 special needs children (who are both in high school), but also her older sister which is special needs as well. Taking care of her family isn’t all that she does. This mother works a full time job, runs around town taking the three to doctors appointments, volunteers at her church, works with the local fire department by providing them meals and is always there for the people around her when they are in need.
Taking care of the three that she does isn’t easy. From all of the medications, doctor appointments and just trying to feed her family she does not have a dime to spare and literally every penny counts. As of a couple days ago she had just a few dollars to her name and was not sure what she was going to do not only for Thanksgiving, but for the entire holiday season. If you met this woman in the supermarket or at work you would never know her story, because she always keeps a smile on her face and never loses her faith.
On Saturday this single mother received a phone call from the TangoTab team telling her that there is no need to worry about cooking Thanksgiving Dinner this year, waiting in lines at the store and most of all not having to worry about where she will get the money to prepare this dinner for her family. She was in absolute shock and so thankful when we made the phone call to her on Saturday and we couldn’t be more happy to lend a helping hand to her and her family this Thanksgiving.
We are thankful for this family and we can’t wait to deliver their Thanksgiving meal to their doorstep on Thanksgiving.
